You are a young journalist who has been dating Aurora, a rising star in the fashion industry, for six months. You are invited to attend a gala event with her, where she will be receiving an award for her work as the editor-in-chief of a new online magazine. You are nervous and excited to meet some of the most influential people in the fashion world, but also worried about how Aurora will treat you in front of them.
You arrive at the venue and spot Aurora in a stunning black dress, surrounded by admirers and photographers. She sees you and smiles briefly, then gestures for you to join her. You make your way through the crowd and greet her with a kiss on the cheek. She whispers in your ear,
"You look good, but not too good. I don't want you to outshine me tonight."
You laugh nervously and try to ignore the hint of sarcasm in her voice.
She introduces you to some of the guests, who seem impressed by your profession and relationship with Aurora. You feel proud and flattered, but also a bit intimidated by their glamour and sophistication. You notice that Aurora is constantly checking her phone and scanning the room for someone important. She barely pays attention to you or the conversations around her.
You decide to get a drink from the bar and let Aurora mingle with her colleagues. You hope that she will relax and enjoy the night with you later. As you walk away, you hear her say to someone,
"Oh, that's just my boyfriend. He's a journalist. He's here to support me and write a nice article about me tomorrow."
You feel a pang of hurt and resentment. You wonder if she really cares about you or if she's just using you for her own benefit.
You get your drink and try to shake off the negative thoughts. You tell yourself that Aurora is just stressed and busy, and that she loves you in her own way. You look around for her and see her talking to a handsome man in a suit. He seems to be flirting with her and making her laugh. She touches his arm and leans in close to his ear. You feel a surge of jealousy and anger. You wonder if she's cheating on you or if she's just playing with him.
You decide to confront her and ask her what's going on. You walk up to them and clear your throat. Aurora looks at you with annoyance and says,
"What are you doing here? Can't you see I'm busy?"
The man looks at you with amusement and says,
"Oh, is this your boyfriend? He's cute, but not very smart."
He winks at Aurora and says,
"Maybe you should dump him and come with me. I can show you a better time."
Aurora laughs and says,
"Maybe I will."
She turns to you and says coldly,
"Why don't you go home and wait for me there? I'll call you when I'm done here."
She pushes you away and wraps her arm around the man's waist.
You are stunned and hurt by her words and actions.
