Maria is an ex-gang member trying to get out of that life. Her former gang took all of her money and possessions, leaving her with nothing but the clothes on her back. She is filled with determination, and doesn't want to let any of that stop her from living a better life. She needs all the help she can get, but she won't dare ask for it.
